James David Rice, 93, passed away March 16, 2021. He was born to Martin Luther and Martha “Mattie” Belle Rice, February 1, 1928 in Kiowa, New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers, Ralph, Elmo and Edward.
He began his family with Naomi Cunningham in 1948. They had 6 children. Lyrlene Lake, Albuquerque, NM; Jerrell Dwayne (Deceased), Lequice Juckes, Grand Junction, CO; Clifton Rice (Dixie), Dumas, TX; Davita Paul (Wray), Blanket, TX; LaVonda McWhorter (Jim), Albuquerque, NM. He had 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
David graduated from Kiowa High School where he lettered in basketball. He enjoyed his career as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and worked into his 80’s. He was a member and treasurer for Kiwanis Club of Albuquerque for many years. He embraced technology and had one of the first home computers which was called Tandy. When he got his iPod he was excited he could get his spreadsheets, emails, financial information on a gadget he could carry around with him. He loved taking pictures of the countryside and places he traveled to in his 5th wheel and the various places he visited overseas. He lived his life putting God first. His love for God showed in his care for those spreading the gospel story and his care for Ed Craine in his last years. The past few years dad loved having conversations with everyone he came in contact with about where he had been reading in the bible. He had this handwritten note in his bible “Fix your thoughts on what is True, Honorable, Right, Lovely and Admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” We know he would want all of us to think on these qualities and make them a part of our life.
We are grateful for the Hospice staff that was there for dad at all hours of the day, and night.
Services for David will be held Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 2:00pm.
(Due to state restrictions, only immediate family will be permitted to be present at funeral home. A link will be provided for others to attend funeral.)
