William R. Kappes

William R. Kappes (Bill) was born in Chicago. He graduated from South Shore High School in Chicago and went directly into the US ARMY (WWII). He was a medic stationed in Niigata, Japan, on the island of Honshu. After WWII was over, he attended Loyola, Chicago for one year. He transferred to the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he received a BA in Journalism. While in college he married Betty Coleman and over the next few years had three children (Kerry, Linda, and Keith).

Following college, he worked for the Hammond Times in Hammond, Indiana as National Advertising Manager. From there he moved to the Detroit area and was the General Manager of the Detroit Metro shopping News. While in Detroit his wife, Betty, passed away.

In January 1978, Bill moved to Albuquerque, NM, after purchasing a direct mail advertising franchise for the state of NM. In May, 1978, he married Jeanne. A few years later, he sold the franchise and became a Realtor and Broker. This was something that he had always want to do. He worked many years in real estate and really enjoyed it. Due to serious skiing accident in 1995, he had to shorten his work hours and finally retire.

Bill had a very strong faith in God and Jesus Christ. He always depended on the Lord and His guidance in all that he did. He was very active in the churches he belonged to throughout his life (Choirs and on numerous committees).

Bill loved to travel. Our family was very important to him, and most of our trips involved getting together with family.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Jeanne, of almost 43 years, daughter Kerry and her husband John, daughter Linda and her husband Dan, son Keith and his wife Theresa, 6 married grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, and one brother, Cal.

He deeply loved and will be very much missed by all of his family and friends. Bill's Memorial service, for friends and family, will be held:
