Walter Jorge Canchucaja

May 2, 1947 — October 16, 2020

Our beloved daddy, Walter Jorge Canchucaja, was called to heaven on Friday, October 16, 2020, where his precious dog, Uno was waiting for him. Walter passed away at home, which he filled with faith, love and strong family traditions.

Walter was born on May 2, 1947, in Lima, Peru. He eventually left Lima, to Austin, TX to pursue a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from St. Edwards University. While getting his MBA at UTEP in El Paso, TX, he met his beloved wife, Rosa Maria waiting for a bus and because of his persistence, eventually their love grew and was followed by a wonderful marriage of over 46 years. Together, they had four daughters and moved to a few different places for his work, which eventually brought them to Albuquerque, NM.

Walter was a generous, determined, and caring man whose greatest pleasure was spending time with his family. He loved music and dancing up a storm. He was always the life of the party and encouraged others to join in. Walter enjoyed Chinese food and could very quickly recommend the best Chinese restaurants in Albuquerque. He was a good cook, often preparing Peruvian meals for his family and made sure no one went hungry. Walter loved playing tennis, running, reading the newspaper and enjoyed his work as an electrical engineer until his retirement.

Walter was a devout Catholic who prayed to the Virgin Mary daily. Our daddy was the pillar of our family and he will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Rosa Maria Canchucaja; his daughter, Rosa Belanger and her husband, Mark and their three children Isabella, Chris and Honoria; his daughter, Veronica Canchucaja and her two children, Ava and Luke, his daughter, Rita Canchucaja and her two children, Austin and Alexander; his daughter, Elizabeth Canchucaja and her daughter, Isis; and his two brothers, Jose Canchucaja and Javier Canchucaja, both still residing in Lima, Peru.

A Rosary will be recited on Thursday, October 22, 2020, 6:00 p.m., at FRENCH - Wyoming. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 23, 2020, 1:00 p.m., at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 4020 Lomas Blvd NE in Albuquerque.

The family asks in lieu of flowers, to please make donations to Walter's beloved charities, World Vision and St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
