Siegfried (Bud) Thunborg Jr.

Siegfried (Bud) Thunborg, Jr, age 92, kind, respectful, intelligent, husband, father, and grandfather passed away on Monday, October 11, 2021.

He is survived by Phyllis, his loving wife of 71 years and four children: Lynn Hightower, Sandy Hyatt (Leedrue), Ted Thunborg (Lacretia), and Jon Thunborg (Kim). He had 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Sig was born in Dayton, Ohio on October 7, 1929. He graduated in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Dayton in 1953, and he continued his education at the University of New Mexico receiving a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1962. He was employed at Sandia National Laboratories for 41 years, where he was recognized as a Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff. During his career at Sandia National Laboratory, he made sustained and significant contributions to the nuclear weapons and solar energy programs, especially in the design and manufacturing development of weapon handling equipment, exploratory weapons development, the Production Prototype Trough solar program, and the SPR III robotics maintenance project.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 15, 2021, at 1:00 p.m., Chester T. French Mausoleum Chapel, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM.
