Ruth Elaine Guemmer passed away peacefully at home, Friday January 8th, 2021 surrounded by her family. She was 83. Ruth was the beloved wife of Arthur P. Guemmer. Proud mother of Sally Guemmer, Elaine Rieske and her husband Mike, Paul Guemmer and his wife Cyndi, Ann DesJardins and her husband Hank, John Guemmer and his wife Milly. Cherished grandmother of Erin and her husband Mason, Kristin, Jane and her husband John, Jack and his wife Marena, Angela and her husband Monty, Gus and his fiancé Lyrik, Eric, Andrew and Jackie. Adored great grandmother of Hunter, son of Erin & Mason, Annie Lou, daughter of Jane & John, Llewyn, son of Gus & Lyrik and Emmett, son of Jack & Marena. Much loved aunt and great aunt to several nieces and nephews.

Art and Ruth celebrated their 60th year of marriage on New Year’s Eve 2020. We shared a beautiful slideshow celebrating their life together with family able to share distantly via zoom. They had a wonderful life of adventure moving every three to four years, compliments of the U.S Air force. She loved to tell the story of Art’s Proposal, “marry me and see the world.” She would then laugh while listing all their assignments that did not take her far from her mid-west home of Kansas City, Missouri. There were some exciting places that she loved; The Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs instilled her passion for the Rocky Mountains, Tampa, Florida for the beaches and Stuttgart, Germany for the European adventures. They finished their Air Force career in Albuquerque, New Mexico where they setup their permanent home.

Ruth took up a career in retail, finishing up as manager of a luggage store, which she loved. Retirement was another great adventure with RV trips across the country. She loved camping on the beach in southern California, and the beautiful autumn colors in the mountains of southern Colorado and northern New Mexico Ruth was a voracious reader and lover of history. She was also an expert Bridge player and enjoyed participating in tournaments.

Most of all she loved her husband and the family they built together. She loved her grand babies and great grand babies!

Words cannot express our gratitude to Charlotte, Ruth’s live-in care giver. Your presence in our parent’s life allowed them to be together in their home, we will be forever grateful to you for that!
