Martha Lee (Tankersley) Hogsett

April 22, 1935 — June 17, 2022

Martha Lee Tankersley Hogsett was born April 22, 1935, to L.E. and Lucille Tankersley in Brownfield, Texas, and departed this earth on June 17, 2022, at the age of 87. Martha grew up in Roswell, New Mexico, where her family operated a small grocery store and filling station. She met her husband, Ted Hogsett, in Roswell while he was a cadet at New Mexico Military Institute. Upon his graduation, they were married August 9, 1953. They were married 68 years.

Martha's greatest love and devotion was her home and family upon which she spent every ounce of her energy and deep, devoted love. After her nest was empty, she returned to school and gained her LPN Nursing license, creating a career she loved working in several doctor's offices in Albuquerque. She loved serving others, a gift that she continued to use after moving to assisted living and memory care, where she helped other residents as much as she was allowed!

Martha was deeply sacrificial to her family, the rock on which her children were able to build their lives. She was wise and witty, caring, stubborn and determined. Many times, she persevered through sheer force of will. That strength was rooted in a quiet, solid faith in Jesus Christ. Her every decision was based on the truth she found there.

Martha was also a lady. Grace and beauty flowed from her spirit. She was a true and loyal friend. In that spirit she was a gracious hostess, providing warm receptions for family and friends quite often.

Martha loved to travel. She and Ted enjoyed years of seeing the USA in their camper. She also treasured the trip to Britain where she, her brother, and in-laws explored their roots at Tankersley Manor. The family wishes to thank Jerry Tankersley for arranging that trip. It meant the world to her.

Martha leaves behind her brother and sister-in-law, Jerry, and Nancy Tankersley; sister-in-law Cathee Tankersley; children Mary Lou and Andy Hooker, Carol and David George, Sandra and Jim Coleman, and Teddie Sue and Rick Mooday; eleven grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ted C. Hogsett, brother Earl Tankersley, and parents L.E. and Lucille Tankersley.

Please consider a donation to Dementia and Alzheimer's research in lieu of flowers.

The family wishes to thank the loving, kind, and generous care of all who served our parents at Watermark Assisted Living and Memory Care. Your kindness will not be forgotten.
