Marilyn E. Feagler

d. January 6, 2022

Marilyn E. Feagler (Lyn), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend to many, died peacefully of natural causes on January 6, 2022. She was 88 years old.

Lyn was preceded in death by her husband, Steven H. Feagler; parents, James and Harriet Wray; brother, Phillip Wray, and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She is survived by son, Stan and wife Susan, children Brian Gary and wife Jenny; Jenny Miles and husband Mark and their children William and Madeline; Steven and wife Trestin and their daughter Ana; daughter, Kathryn (Kay) and children Mark and Marina; daughter Lorraine (Lori) and husband David Rakestraw, children Katie Hintze and husband Tim and their son Wesley; Claire Colburn and husband Darin; son James (Jim); and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Lyn was born October 7, 1933 in Chicago, IL to James and Harriet Wray. She grew up in Chicago and was very close to her many aunts, uncles, and cousins in the area for all of her life. She graduated from Taft High School as valedictorian at age 16 and Phi Beta Kappa from DePauw university in Greencastle, IN in 1954. This is where Lyn met the love of her life, Steve Feagler. Lyn and Steve married in Chicago on August 14, 1954. Lyn taught school for two years in Chicago while Steve was in medical school. They moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1964 where Steve started his practice of orthopedic surgery. Together Lyn and Steve built a house they lived in for 46 years and raised 4 children. Her family meant everything to her, and she was always there for them, to help, support, guide, mentor, and cheer on – whatever was needed.

Lyn was an active member of St. Luke Lutheran Church for over 50 years. She was active in her children’s schools and was a member of the Albuquerque Academy Parents’ Association, serving a term as president. She also served two years on the Academy’s Board of Trustees. Steve and Lyn traveled extensively together. They went from New Zealand and China to Europe and Africa, and always made time for their favorite location: Hawaii. They made many wonderful memories with their family in the Hawaiian Islands. Lyn cherished her friendships and family members. She faithfully kept in contact with them through written correspondence and phone calls – remembering birthdays, anniversaries, engagements, graduations, births, and deaths. Her Christmas card list was enormous, but her collection of stationery and cards was even bigger! Lyn began a pen-pal relationship when she was 8 years old and maintained it the rest of her life. Lyn was an eternal optimist. She always saw the rosy side of any person, place or situation. She was a joy to know and be near. Several years ago, she battled and beat breast cancer. During that time and in the years since, our family learned a great deal from her about courage and resilience and redefined our concept of true beauty. She was strong, wise, and the most beautiful woman we have had the privilege to know. We love her with all our hearts and will miss her every day, but we are joyful that she is finally reunited with our father.

Our family thanks the staff at Home Care Assistance and Corus Hospice for their compassionate care for Lyn in her final days. A private, family memorial will be held January 29, 2022 in accordance with her wishes. If you would like to make a donation, Lyn asked that you consider Shriners Hospitals for Children.
