Marie Flaurance Fofo Voltaire-Snow

May 30, 1948 — January 18, 2021

Marie Flaurance Fofo Voltaire died very suddenly from a heart attack on Monday morning the 18th of January, Martin Luther King Day. She was 72. Her death was such a shock because she had no diagnosed heart condition. She had boundless energy and enthusiasm for everything she set her mind to. She was the first child of Enevre Voltaire and Dr Gesner Beauvoir. Fofo was delivered in the home of her maternal grandmother in Mirserne Haiti on Sunday, May 30, 1948. She was raised in Petionville Haiti and Cambridge MA. She graduated from Boston University and began her career in the hospitality industry in New York City. She moved in 1983 to Albuquerque with her husband Russell Snow (deceased 2000) and founded Fofo’s Caribbean Restaurant and Caribbean Temptations Spices and Lemonades. She belonged to many service organizations including Albuquerque Links, Sandia Rotary, NM Black Caucus, Heart Hospital Eucharistic Ministry, NM Jazz Workshop, and her own Hands of the Caribbean providing education and health services in Haiti.

Fofo had three siblings all surviving, Marie Claude Voltaire, Rico Beauvoir and Marie Lourdes Toussaint. She is survived by her husband, Dan Herrick; and five children, Tami Snow Ellis (husband John), Rusty Snow both from Santa Barbara CA, Elizabeth Herrick Anderson (husband Jeremy), Emily Herrick Kassam (husband Hussein) and Kandrise Voltaire all from Albuquerque. Fofo had seven grandchildren, Miles and Blaze Snow, Naomi and Taliah Ellis, Natalie and Scarlett Anderson and Suhmani Valdez-Voltaire. She was a big part of their lives and hated that the pandemic kept her apart from them. We will all miss her dearly.

Funeral and burial will be limited to immediate family. We hope to have a Celebration of Fofo’s Life on her 73rd birthday, May 30, 2021. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to Hands of the Caribbean Inc. a 501C3 NM nonprofit at http://handsofthecaribbean.com to support education and health services in Haiti.
