Marie Helen (Honeycutt) Farnsworth

June 17, 1923 — December 31, 2022

FARNSWORTH - Marie Farnsworth (nee Honeycutt) died Saturday, December 31, 2022, 6 months shy of her 100th birthday. Marie lived a remarkable life and lived in remarkable times. From the Dust Bowl, the Great Depression, WWII, the atomic age, the tumultuous 60s/70s, the rise and fall of the Iron Curtain, the internet revolution and beyond, she was a part of it all. Born in Amarillo Texas, Marie came to Albuquerque in 1936 where her father built a nursery business. She graduated from Albuquerque HS in 1941 and went to work for the US Army Corps of Engineers at 18yo as America entered the war, even unknowingly supporting the Manhattan Project. She met Dave Farnsworth in 1950, who became her husband of 52 years. Upon motherhood, Marie left the Corps to focus on her family. She returned to the Corps in 1974, becoming a leader through commitment and perseverance when it wasn't widely acceptable for a women to be one; and as such she was a pioneer for women everywhere. In between her times there, she was mom to 3 children. Once she retired, Marie enjoyed traveling, volunteering, and being a grandmother. Marie was preceded in death by Dave in 2002; her eldest son, Gary in 2017, and is survived by her daughter Nancy ( Al King); her son, Jim (Laura); daughter in law, Susan Miertl; and her beloved grandchildren, Maddie, Taliah, Colin, Matthew, and Benjamin. Additionally, she adored her six great-grandchildren. She treasured her nieces, Kay Ballinger, Julie Ballinger, and Maxine Steele, who made a difference throughout her life and even more so as she aged. She moved to Manzano del Sol in 2016 at the same time as her lifelong best friend Joy Dale. As she entered the final chapter of her life, our entire family was blessed with the services of caregivers for whom there are no words sufficient to thank them enough - Ann Mullens, Addy Fernandez, and Brenda Romero. A celebration of her life will be held on a future date. The family requests no flowers, yet if a gift is desired please choose a favorite charity in her memory.
