Margaret Ann Schrader

d. October 4, 2019

Margaret Ann Northcutt Schrader, age 86, a resident of Albuquerque since 1974, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 4, 2019.

Margaret was born to Joe and Ethel “Dot” Northcutt on Monday, January 23, 1933, in Tulsa, OK, the second of four sisters. After growing up in Paragould, AR, she entered nursing school in Memphis, TN, where she met and fell in love with William "Bill" Schrader, an ROTC student at Memphis State College. They were married on June 19, 1954. Bill's Air Force career took the growing family to assignments in Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, Kansas, Georgia, Florida, New Jersey, Missouri, and Colorado. Margaret's training and work as a nurse prepared her well for the challenges of being an Air Force wife and mother of six children. She dedicated her life to her family, often as a single parent while her husband was away on assignment. After moving to Albuquerque in 1974, the Schraders joined Ridgecrest Christian Church, where they have been members ever since.

Margaret's deep faith and love of God and family were at the heart of all she did. She was an avid reader, and maintained journals and scrapbooks. She used her creative talents to sew and make beautiful quilts. Over time, she faithfully cared for five family members in their final years. She will be remembered for her steady, positive influence, her caregiving nature, and selflessness.

Margaret was preceded in death by her son, Scott in 2001; and her husband, Bill in 2014. She is survived by her three sisters, Barbara Northcutt, Mary Jo Simmons, and Martha Lee McKiernan; and five of her six children, Lyn Schrader, Dawn Schrader, Karl Schrader, and Joe Schrader and wife Dawn, all of Albuquerque, and Kristi Ouellette and husband Greg, of Winter Springs, FL. There are eleven grandchildren, Lora Baca, Nick and Brian Card Troy, Emily, Bianca, Katie, and Sam Schrader, Renee, Andrew, and Bailey Ouellette; and six great-grandchildren, Noah and Nathan Bonano, Maryssa and Matthew Baca, and Emma and "Baby" Card due in 2020.

Services for Margaret will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2019, 10:00 a.m. at Ridgecrest Christian Church, 5300 Eastern Ave. SE (Gibson and San Mateo). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
