Margaret Scott (Tarbell) Clemmons

November 18, 1941 — January 6, 2022

Margaret "Peggy" Scott Clemmons was born in East McKeesport, Pennsylvania on November 18, 1941. Peggy died at the age of 80 on January 6, 2022. Peggy was a positive, happy, and cheerful person who loved her family, was a great friend and loyal employee. She would put a smiley face sticker on almost anything and so beautifully wrapped gifts that one hated to open them. She enjoyed bowling on a senior women's league, going to Jazzercise and had the pleasure of playing Mahjongg and Bridge with longtime friends. She always gave "unbirthday gifts" to all the brothers and sisters of the birthday person. She studied middle eastern music and was part of the Ya Habibi Belly dancing troupe. She had two fun little dogs who loved her.

She left Pennsylvania at the age of 10 when the family moved to NM. Peggy graduated from Highland HS in 1959 and continued on to the UNM. After she was thrilled to be hired on as clerk in the Personnel Department of APS Central Office. With her great people skills and accomplished secretarial prowess she worked her way up the job chain until she reached the position of Secretary to the Superintendent and retired from APS in 1987. Retirement lost its charm and she continued to work at other businesses until she was chosen as the Administrative Assistant to Albuquerque's newly elected Mayor in 1990. This was an exciting and very busy time in her life. After the Mayor's Office, she held positions at Albq. Convention Center, the Rick Johnson Advertising Agency, and the Rio Grande Arts and Crafts Festival. Those opportunities brought her many new skills and treasured friendships. Still not ready to retire, she worked part-time with NMAFR until just months before her death. Her professional skills and accomplishments spanned over 60 years of work.

Peggy is survived by her sister Nicky Caldwell and husband Jerry, Sister-in-law, Suzon Tarbell and loving nephews and nieces Donise Craner, Deb Mitchell, Jared Tarbell, Amber Croxall, Tyson Tarbell, Brandon Tarbell, Kyra Miller. Families can be together forever, and she has joined her parents, Margaret Eleanor Shaver Tarbell and Robert Scott Tarbell, and her younger brother, William (Bill) Tarbell, in heaven. She had been married to Melvin Bruce Sutherlen and Alfred L Clemmons. All who knew her will miss her smile, her upbeat positive outlook, her organization, and her genuine friendship. We will deeply miss her in our lives.

Peggy loved sparkle and bright colors. We invite all who attend her memorial to wear bright colors to celebrate her life. A memorial service will be held February 5, 2022, at 3:00pm at FRENCH-Wyoming.
