Manuel A. Ferran, PhD, age 79, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2017. Manuel was a proud member of the 1953 Aztec High School football state championship team. He graduated from El Rito High School in 1955. Manuel then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma where he met his wife, Yvonne. He ended his military career at Travis AFB in California. He attended UNM and completed his BA and MBA in 1963. He worked for the CIA at Langley, VA until 1965. While working towards his PhD, he was a professor at Central State College in Edmond, OK. Manuel returned to NM where he worked for the Home Education Livelihood Program (HELP) and completed his dissertation. He received his PhD in Economics from the Univ. of Oklahoma in 1969. Soon after, Dr. Ferran was appointed Director for the General Addiction Treatment Effort (GATE) in Albuquerque. He went on to become President of El Valle State Bank. Manuel’s proudest achievement was being a founder of the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce in June 1975 and also served as its President. He retired as a professor from NM Highlands Univ. Manuel and his wife owned Insta-tune for 24 years and various other small business ventures over the years.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Yvonne Ferran; their children, Celene Barela and husband, Mark, Brad Ferran and wife, Jackie, Christine Fietek and husband, Dave; grandchildren, Ashley DeLayo and husband, David, Erica Barela, Adam Barela, Logan Ferran and wife, Cassandra, Annika Fietek, and Carter Fietek; great-grandchildren, Ava, Kevin, and Levi DeLayo; sisters, Eleanor Trujillo and Gennie Kennedy; aunts, Sr. Carmela Trujillo and Andrea Lucero; several nieces, nephews and numerous cousins.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 16, 2017 from 5:30 -6:30 p.m., with a Rosary Service at 6:30 p.m. and reception to follow at FRENCH – University. Funeral service will be Friday, November 17, 2017, 10:00 a.m., at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 1818 Coal Pl. SE in Albuquerque. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.org.
