Mamie Zamora Garcia

On Thursday, February 18, 2021, Mamie Zamora Garcia, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, went to be with the Lord at the age of 85. Mamie was born on April 29, 1935 to Eubaldo and Lena (Duran) Zamora. Her maternal ancestors (the Durans) were among the first Spanish settlers of Albuquerque. Mamie was a 1953 graduate of St. Mary's High School and worked as a special education teacher’s aide at Inez Elementary School for several years. Mamie loved feeding her family and made the best tortillas in the world! She was known for her quick wit, her Colgate smile, and her compassionate spirit. She is preceded in death by her devoted and loving husband of 59 years, Hilario Garcia, and her son, Larry Jr. (Little Larry). Mamie is survived by her children, David Garcia (Gloria Guzman), Debbie Garcia, Phil Garcia, and Deann Baines (Rob Baines). She is also survived by her grandchildren - AJ Garcia, Crystal Baines, Lauren Garcia, Vanessa Kennedy, Joshua Baines, KC Garcia, and Victoria Baines - seven great-grandchildren - brother Tony Zamora, sister Juanita Gurule, brother-in-law Steve Alexander, sister-in-law Maggie Zamora, brother-in-law Richard Garcia, sisters-in-law, Alda Padilla and Carmen Garcia, and a very special nephew, Robert Zamora, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and family.  A special thanks to the staff at Life Spire Assisted Living who cared for our mom for the past 5 1/2 years, and her hospice nurses Amber and Dana. Mamie was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her devotion ran especially deep when it came to caring for her developmentally challenged son, Larry Jr.

A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday, March 4, 2021 at 11 am, at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, located at 5415 Fortuna Rd NW, Albuquerque, NM 87105. Due to Covid 19 restrictions, attendance in person will be limited with appropriate social distancing, and masks.
