Lucille H. Chavez

May 7, 1939 — February 13, 2021

Lucille H. Chavez, age 81, peacefully took our Lord’s hand and followed him into heaven on Saturday, February 13, 2021. Lucille was born in Sena, NM on May 7, 1939 to Oliver and Rita Hern. Lucille lived in Sena most of her life but had moved to Albuquerque and Rio Rancho due to declining health.

She married her high school sweetheart, Elfego J. Chavez (Luggie) on May 14, 1960 and raised their family and always enjoyed life together and visiting with their children and grandchildren. They were married for 61 years and managed their family business in Sena, which included a grocery/liquor store and gas station.  As busy as she was, she still had time to maintain a garden in the summer and care for her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all her family, fur puppy Bud plus all her other grand-fur puppies especially Lacy, Balou, and Sparky.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Rita Hern; sisters, Mary Hall, Leandra (Willie) Torrez; brothers, Willie (Justa), Oliver (Margie) and Frank (Piedad) Hern; father and mother-in-law, Apolonio and Isidora Chavez; sisters-in-law, Virginia Lambert and Josie Chavez; and brother-in-law, Manuel Chavez.

She is survived by her husband, Elfego J. Chavez; son, Gabriel (Louella) Chavez; daughters, Eileen Chavez (Louie), Bertha (David) Martinez, Yvonne (Andrew) Gonzales and Sandra Chavez; granddaughters, Sabrina (Jeanette), Heather (Vicente), Angelique (Ray), Ashleigh, Roxanna, Lydia, and Katheryne (Josh); grandsons, Joshua, Gabriel, Andrew (Joanna), David, and Nathan; great-grandchildren, Delano, Hailey, Laila, Jolyssa (Brice), Addie, Aria, Sharmaine, Bella, Chelsea and Xoey, J.J., Anthony, Marcus, Elijah, Nicholas, and Nik; great-great-granddaughters, Sammy and Baby Avery; sisters, Theresa Villanueva and Joan McCoy; sisters-in-law, Molly (Toby) Ortiz, and Gabby (Joseph) Vigil; brothers-in-law, Leo (Isabel) Chavez, and Jeff Hall. She is also survived by many other loving family members, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

The Chavez family is very grateful to AmberCare Hospice, especially her caretaker, Michelle; nurse, Nicole; personal assistants; Janelle and Taylor, and Minister Roberto, and all other on-call nurses and friends (Diane, Frances, and Claudia) for the wonderful care they provided Lucille during her illness.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the family will hold a memorial service at a later date in celebrating her life and a burial at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM.
