Lois Catherine Reed

July 26, 1921 — February 4, 2015

REED, LOIS CATHERINE Lois Catherine Reed, 93, passed away February 4, 2015 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was born to Edith and John Linville on July 26, 1921 in Chicago, IL. She lived there until she moved to New Mexico to marry Jack W. Reed, who preceded her in death in November 2007. She was also preceded in death by her son, Roger. She is survived by her daughter, Margaret (Marti) Reed; and granddaughter, Terra Reed. Lois also leaves behind her cousin, Lloyd Van Schoyck, who was like a brother to her growing up. She will be fondly remembered by her many friends at Manzano del Sol, where she lived for the past 10 years, and at First Congregational Church, where she was a member for 65 years. Lois was an active volunteer for many organizations and causes that were dear to her heart. She sang in the choir, volunteered regularly, was the first female Chair of the Church Council, and served as Director of Religious Education at First Congregational Church. She also worked in Public Relations for the Albuquerque Conference of Churches. At Manzano del Sol, she chaired the Food Service Committee, starred in a weekly TV announcement show, knitted hats for homeless children, helped start a group for residents with visual impairments, and hosted local ministers for meals. She particularly loved discussing religion, history, and politics with visiting ministers, friends, and family around the dinner table. A Memorial Service will be held at Manzano del Sol on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at 2:00 p.m., and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at First Congregational Church on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to First Congregational Church of Albuquerque or Manzano del Sol.
