Linwood Hitchcock Boyer Jr, a true southern gentleman, a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, born in Eufaula, Alabama on December 7th, 1925, passed away peacefully on Tuesday December 6th, 2022, just a day short of his 97th birthday.

At the young age of 17, a year after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Linwood attempted to join the Army. To his dismay, a bulging hernia prevented his enlistment. A year later, making a full recovery from hernia repair surgery, he successfully became an infantryman determined to serve his country in WWII. After leaving the Army, he returned to his home in Alabama. He found he missed being military service and re-enlisted. Linwood was stationed at Fort Campbell Kentucky, when his daughter Dorothy was born. Soon after he was deployed to Japan at the start of the Korean War. A fellow battle buddy convinced him to apply for paratrooper training together. While his friend did not end up qualifying as paratrooper, Linwood was accepted, trained and deployed to the Korean battlefront. During his tour in the Korean War, Linwood was struck by mortar shrapnel temporarily relieving him from his duties and awarding him with a Purple Heart. He was released back into battle shortly after recovery. After 21 faithful years of service in the military, highly decorated at the rank of Sergeant Major U.S. Army Linwood made the difficult decision to retire and started his next career in Civil Service and moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. His numerous commendations and medals include: Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal, Combat Infantry Army Award, Qualification Parachutist, Qualification Master Parachutist, European Campaign Medal, Victory World War II Medal, American Campaign Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army of Occupation World War II Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and National Defense Service Medal.

Corcoran and wife Athena Corcoran, Carrie A. Corcoran and husband Majin Garcia, Shannon C. Corcoran and husband Jacob Young; great-grandchildren, Melody D. Corcoran, Cora A. Young, Desmond O.
