Leslie K. Greene-Martinez

d. May 6, 2019

Leslie K. Greene-Martinez passed away at her home in Sandia Park on Monday, May 6th, 2019. She was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan Friday, November 8, 1946. She attended college at Northern Arizona University and studied Police Science. There, she met and married former spouse, William F. Martinez. They had two daughters. Her daughters married and gave her beautiful grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. After her divorce, she moved to Albuquerque and joined the Albuquerque Police Department. She became a role model for many female officers and accomplished many firsts: She was the first female police officer who was trained for service in the field; she was the first female Captain on APD; and the first female instructor at the Albuquerque Police Academy. She served Albuquerque and its citizens for twenty years. After leaving, she moved to Portsmouth, Virginia to become their first female Police Chief. She left Portsmouth to return to New Mexico and be with family. Back in Albuquerque, she worked as a Special Investigator for USIS. When she finally retired, she spent much of her time with her family. She was an avid reader from The Bible to the latest tax codes- she wanted to keep her mind strong.

She is survived by her daughters, Tanya Jaramillo and her husband, Steve and Michael Steeples and her husband, Thomas; five grandchildren, Chase, Jonah, Elijah, Elliot, Riley; great-granddaughter, Adysun; three brothers, Todd Greene and his wife Barbara, Scott Greene, Raymond Greene Jr. and his wife Jennifer; sister, Darlene Everett; and many loved nieces and nephews. She loved her family with all her heart. She will be missed by many.

A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, May 14, 2019, 11:00 a.m., at FRENCH-University.
