Kathryn (Kathy) Roybal passed away Thursday, January 7, 2021 at the age of 85. She was preceded in death by her husband; Ben F. Roybal; son, Jeff Roybal; daughter, Janice Bustos; and dear friend, Rudy Gonzales. She is survived by four children, Deborah Gorenz, Ben Charles Roybal and wife Connie, Carla Parmoon and husband Jay and Diane Roybal; her sisters, Mary Lou Pavlich and Phyllis Pavlich; her brother, Jim Pavlich; and Jeff’s spouse, Rachael Doheny.
Kathy was a loving grandmother and great-grandmother to nine grandchildren, Erica Jeantete and husband Tom, Elisa Gorenz, Nicole C’de Baca and husband Chris, Brittney Bustos, Marissa Bustos, Chantel Roybal, Jeff Alan Roybal, Ryan Parmoon and Ben Parmoon; and seven great-grandchildren, Tomas, Gabriela, and Isaiah Jeantete, and Santiago, Iziquial, Christina, and Tiffany C’deBaca.
Her devotion and loyalty to her family was inspiring, but her greatest gift to all of us was her unconditional love.
She was a strong and independent person, and a teacher for 23 years. Kathy ran for Lieutenant Governor of New Mexico and appeared before the state legislature advocating for teachers’ rights. After retiring from teaching, she ran a small retail business for many years.
She was a big fan of sports, especially football and golf and could often be heard “hexing” the opponents to her favorite football teams. When not reading or working her crosswords, one of her great pleasures was joining her friends at the casinos. She was a devout Catholic and a member of Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish.
She lived a full life and made ours better by being in it. A Rosary will be recited on Thursday, January 14, 2021 6:00 p.m. at FRENCH-Wyoming which can be watched via livestream here: http://webcast.funeralvue.com/events/viewer/45338. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 15, 2021, 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church, 2532 Vermont St Ne, 87110.
Memorial contributions may be made under her name to one of her favorite charities, Casa Angelica.
