Joseph L. Monasterio

Joseph L. Monasterio, age 56, beloved husband and amazing father, was called too soon to his eternal resting place on Thursday, December 16, 2021, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was born August 11, 1965, in Tucuman, Argentina to Jose R. Monasterio, MD. Joe is the eldest of 6 children.

He is survived by Anna, his spouse of 26 years; son, Benicio; daughter, Gianina; stepdaughter, Stephanie Chavez; and stepson, Lawrence Lovato and wife, Shannon; father, Jose R. Monasterio MD and wife, Ana Maria; siblings, Sylvia, Marc, Jessica Renninger and husband Chris, Michael, and Jonathan, also survived by his father and mother-in-law, Samuel and Margaret Madrid; sister and brother-in-law, Bernadette and Stephen Day; brother-in-law, Paul Madrid and Marie. He had several nieces and nephews, and many other family members and numerous cousins, most all of whom live in South America.

Joe lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and was an MRI Technologist for over 25 years, and was last employed with Optum. He served in the United States Air Force from 1990-1997. He went on to earn his bachelor's degree in Biology at The University of New Mexico (UNM) in 2018. Also earned a prior bachelor's degree in Spanish sometime in 1999. Joe was an avid soccer fan and enjoyed watching the games every chance he got. He loved practicing and playing soccer with family and friends. He also enjoyed working outside in the yard, going on long hikes and fixing his cars. He was never one to stay still. He had traveled to many places during his lifetime. He was the most kind and gentle person ever. Was funny, intelligent and very witty. He will always be remembered for his constant smile and little chuckle. He loved his children more than words can say. He is missed tremendously, and although he is gone, he will never be forgotten.

Mass will be held on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 5712 Paradise Blvd. NW, Albuquerque, NM 87114. at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will follow, same day at the Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 N. Guadalupe St. Santa Fe, New Mexico 87501, at 2:15 p.m.

Due to COVID, there will be no reception.
