Grant Carl Bauer

d. April 28, 2017

Grant Carl Bauer, 54, a generous, loving, and inspired friend of many, passed away on April 28th, 2017 in his home. He is survived by his beloved wife, Karroll Candelaria-Bauer; treasured children, Gabriella Leigh Bauer and Mitchell Grant Bauer; sisters, Joan Lundberg Biggs, and Sharon Lundberg Colton; niece and nephew, Brandy Colton, and Clay Colton and family; cousins John and Nancy Bauer Terwilliger, Steve and Amy Bauer, Rebecca Bauer Wassmer, Dan and Heidi Bauer, and families; Philip Richter, Sandy Hardy Gardner, Kathy Niese Lewis, Karol Niese Moreland,  Merilee Niese Anderson, Patty Niese Matson, Jeannie Niese Beckley, Laura Niese Clark, Linda Niese Sperline, Bryan Niese, Berry Niese, and families.  Grant is also survived by mother-in-law, Viola Candelaria, father-in-law, Bernard A. Candelaria; brother-in-law, Bernard T. Candelaria and family; and countless friends.

Grant is preceded in death by his graceful mother, Augusta “Ann” Florence Hughes; devoted father, Lynton Grant Bauer; Lane Bauer, Carl Niese, Marie Niese Whitney, Elizabeth Niese Richter, Elsie Niese Hardy, Ken Whitney, and Allan Hardy.

Grant was the life of the party, a person who always listened to others and made every person feel that they were heard and seen.  He created community wherever he went. Grant loved life, music, NM, his pet rat that he trained in High School, his dogs, and NM sunsets - always bringing his family outside to watch the brilliant colors fade from the sky. Above all else he loved his wife Karroll, his children, Gabriella and Mitchell. Grant was so proud of all their accomplishments, always their best friend, their advocate and protector.

Grant “Bunky” was born in Arizona and grew up in Albuquerque. He graduated from Albuquerque Academy in 1981 where he played soccer, basketball, ran track, and managed to have just a little bit of fun with all his Charger friends.  Grant received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of San Diego in 1985.  He was a proud member of the Phi Kappa Theta fraternity and loved his brothers dearly.  Grant was always ready for a "body wamp session", a bonfire, or a grunion run in Ocean Beach with friends. As a drummer, Grant was so proud to have the opportunity to open for groups like Level 42 and the Fixx with his first band, Eleventh Hour, and he was honored to play professionally with Lydia Van Huston and numerous other groups in Los Angeles.

Grant began his career as a private investigator in Los Angeles and returned to his home town to form Bauer Investigation. The business started from scratch, with Grant and Karroll often staring at the fax machine, waiting for a case to come in. With the support of his incredibly dedicated staff and family members, Grant grew his company into a worldwide organization and finally merged with Claims Verification, Inc.

Grant’s children were the love of his life.  He adored spending time with them bodysurfing, hiking, travelling, cooking, and watching movies.  Grant always wanted the very best for Gabriella and Mitchell.  He wanted them to know how to love life and to find happiness in the world.

Grant enjoyed coaching swimming and basketball and always had a fun story to share about his track runners and jumpers at Albuquerque Academy.  He was a consummate and incredible drummer who loved music and played to the rhythms of his heart and the music of his soul. Grant’s “syncopated drum beat” will live on in our hearts forever.

A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, May 17, 2017, from 4:00-8:00 p.m., at Albuquerque Country Club, 601 Laguna Blvd SW.
