Jerry was a 1960 graduate of Calumet High School, a 1962 graduate of Suomi College (Finlandia), and a 1968 graduate of Michigan State University where he earned a B.S. degree in Police Administration. In between Soumi and Michigan State, Jerry served four years in the U.S. Navy, as a code decipherer during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Upon graduating from Michigan State, Jerry began a career in the Department of Defense Investigative Service in California and then New Mexico, retiring in March 1996, where he was Chief of the Industrial Security Field Office.

Upon retirement, he assisted in the care of his first wife, Iris, who had suffered a stroke in January 1996. Jerry volunteered as a Biblical Counselor with Calvary Chapel and as a Biblical Counselor at the city Metropolitan Detention Center. He also volunteered in the Evidence Department of the Albuquerque Police Department, and as a patient visitor at the VA Hospital.

Jerry was a kind, gentle, compassionate, faithful, and caring man who put his trust in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
