Georgia Mae (Burns) Chavez

May 9, 1928 — April 28, 2022

Georgia Mae Chavez 93, died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, April 28, 2022. Born May 9, 1928, in Cimarron, NM, she was a lifetime resident of Los Ranchos de Albuquerque. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Johnnie B Chavez; parents, William Burns and Annie F Burns; and sister, Leanna Continola. She is survived by her children, Loretta Smith, Robert Chavez, Ronald Chavez, and Yvonne Dominguez; grandchildren, Tania, Kala, Christopher, Rhiannon, Dennise, Raquel, Ronnie, Ryan, Stephen, and Taylor; great-grandchildren, Devin, Rosalinda, Jazmine, Melody, Damian, Gabe, and Isabella; great-great-grandchild, Donna; son-in-law, Dennis Smith; and daughter-in-law, Theresa Chavez. Georgia is also survived by siblings, William, Tessie, Herman, Jimmy, and Norman; and by many nieces and nephews who dearly loved her.

Georgia married into a historic New Mexico Hispanic family that has roots in the North Valley dating back to the late 1600s. She was an avid golfer, loved word searches, and prayed every morning and evening without fail. She also never missed a person's birthday and would make it a point of calling that person with a personal Happy Birthday wish. If you asked any family member who made the best red chile in Albuquerque, all would say Georgia!

Georgia was a faithful member of the Catholic Church and dedicated most of her adult life serving in different Catholic organizations. She managed the St. Vincent De Paul Society thrift store and operations for over 15 years. She also participated in the Parish council and Carmelitas de Los Ranchos. She continuously volunteered her time aiding those in need and would take extra steps to pursue all possible avenues that could aid people seeking help. She was loved by all the people she helped.

She is loved by all her family, many friends and will be deeply missed! She has now joined the Lord, her loving husband, friends, and family that have passed in Heaven. May she rest in peace.
