Fred Nathaniel Murphy

July 29, 1941 — November 28, 2019

Nathaniel Frederick Murphy “Fred” was born to Parents: Hannibal Martin Murphy and Nellie Pearl Murphy on July 29, 1941 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He fell asleep in death Thursday, November 28th, 2019 in his home at 78 years old surrounded by his family.

He was preceded in death by both parents, his brothers Hannibal jr., John, Clarence, Edward, and Lela.  His Children; Jay M. Murphy, Eric C. Murphy, and Joseph A. Sanders.

Survived by his loving wife of over 40 years Margaret L. Murphy, siblings: Joe L. Murphy, Dolly Thompson,  and Laura Lipscomb, his children; Darlene A. Murphy, Nathaniel F. Murphy Jr., Nellie P. Murphy, Jesse B. Murphy, Cynthia C. Murphy, Naomi L. Payton, and Samuel J. Sanders.

Fred was well protected and cared for by his older brothers and sisters throughout his life. He was also blessed with a multitude of descendants including 28 Grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

As a child he was very smart in school jumping ahead in grades and was very active in school athletics. Fred was very talented in artistry, drawing and painting.  He stayed busy at home with chores such as, digging ditches, chopping cars, picking from the fruit trees and gardens. Fred held several occupations including singing in a band, serving at the Petroleum club, working with his Brother Edward in Janitorial services, Truck driving for Noble Sysco and Union Carbide, boiler operator for PNM, and maintenance work for Bernalillo County.

In his later years he enjoyed listening to his music, using his skills of planning, building, carpentry, painting, and working with his hands. He cared for all life, and took care of his birds, fish and strays. He worked on making a beautiful back yard patio, pond, and sanctuary. This was to channel his energy to connect with nature and enjoy life as he fought his physical illnesses throughout the last of his years. He enjoyed gardening and playing on league bowling with his wife Margaret, as well as his large groups of family and friends.

From 2013 onward, together he and Margaret were active members of Jehovah’s Witness Alameda Congregation. Fred was an incredibly intelligent speaker, mentor and spiritual teacher. A trustworthy adviser and confidant who approached all he interacted with from a place of love and respect. He had an amazing talent for reaching the hearts and minds of people he spoke with throughout his life and service to Jehovah. Our Dad, Grandpa, Brother, Uncle, Advisor and Beloved Family Member and Friend will be sorely missed.
