Felix George Muniz

June 4, 1950 — April 24, 2021

Felix George Muñiz, age 70, of Rio Rancho NM passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Saturday, April 24, 2021. Due to complications associated with Covid-19.

Felix was born in Boulder County Colorado on June 4, 1950. Although Felix is his first name the people closest to him called him George. Felix enrolled at CU Boulder in the early 70’s to better himself, education was the up most in importance to him. He always said, "Education is something that no one can take away from you". During the late 70’s early 80’s Felix and others closest to him shared the same outrage, founded El Comite in Longmont, Colorado. El Comite advocated for the rights of Latinos and the relationship between the police. Felix and other members often marched in protest chanting" CHICANO POWER"! In a show of pride and unity. Felix wanted more for Chicano’s, so the "Shades of Brown" was established, Felix being one of the two masterminds behind the brotherhood in Longmont, CO. Shades of Brown insured that Chicano's where not going to be pushed around or be treated differently in Longmont, CO, or its neighboring cities.

Eventually, Felix left Colorado to make New Mexico his new home. Shortly after Felix accepted a position as a letter carrier with the United States Post Office. It was not long after that, Felix and longtime partner, Linda, mother to his two youngest children were married and able to purchase their forever home in Rio Rancho. Felix continued to work as a letter carrier for USPS until 2018 when he retired after 35 plus years. But long before Felix retired, he loved being active. If he wasn't playing basketball, soft ball or his favorite past time horseshoes. Then him and his family were out camping or fishing. Felix was a loving father and provider. Someone you could count on if times were hard. If he were in a position to help, he would. But what he was best at was being an amazing grandfather. That truly made his heart happy. He adored his grandchildren. There wasn't a thing in the world he wouldn't do for anyone of them.

Felix was preceded in death by his father, Felix Muñiz; mother, Rose Mary Sanchez; twin boys, Teddy & Trivy Muñiz; and daughter, Anita Muñiz. Felix is survived by his wife, Linda Muñiz; and four remaining children, DeeAnn Muñiz, George Muñiz, Rita Muñiz, and Marie Hessinger; five brothers, Wilford Muñiz, Clifford Muñiz, Andrew Muñiz, Brian Muñiz, and Raymond Martinez; three sisters, Helen Muñiz, Lucille Muñiz, and Constance Sanchez; ten grandchildren, DeeAndra Duran, Teven Borrego, Robert F. Montano, Tomikay Borrego, Savannah Montano, Robert A. Sisnerors, Athena Herrera, Aiana Herrera and Julian Martinez. Felix will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
