Edward Luis Ybarra

December 21, 1946 — June 20, 2021

Edward Louis Ybarra was born in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas on December 21, 1946.

He was the youngest of ten children. His parents were Nasarrio and Juana Ybarra.

Ed and his family attended Saint Anthony of Padua’s Catholic Church in Strong City, Kansas. It was there that Ed had his First Holy Communion on April 3, 1958, and Ed served as Altar Boy for many years.

Ed was educated in Kansas, and he graduated from Chase County High School in 1966. After high school he enlisted in the United States Navy. He was assigned to guided missile cruiser the USS Ticonderoga.

Ed served two tours during the Vietnam War and was released from active duty with an Honorable Discharge. He received two medals for his service which are the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal.

After completing his service, Ed returned to Kansas. He was employed by Santa Fe Railroad out of Emporia, Kansas, later he was promoted to conductor and retired from that position after twenty-six years.

After retiring, Ed moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where he had close friends, many of whom he had worked with on the railroad. Ed made many new friends, including neighbors, He enjoyed good conversation and helping others. Ed had a passion for shopping and enjoyed sharing his special “buys”.

Ed’s heath declined and he lived at Las Palomas Center for the last three years of his life where he was well cared for by the staff.

Ed passed away June 20, 2021, in the care of Compasses Hospice.

A Memorial Service is scheduled for Wednesday, June 30, 2021, French Funerals – Lomas at 11:00 a.m.
