Doris Jean (Wolf) Brass

d. November 22, 2019

Doris Jean (Wolf) Brass passed away Friday, November 22, 2019, at the age of 91. Doris was born in Majors County, OK on Wednesday, February 29, 1928, to Ferris and Gladys Wolf. Her family moved to Dodge City, KS where she spent her childhood. She often recounted the story of the 1939 world premiere of the movie “Dodge City”, when her mother made matching western style dresses for the girls and the men were encouraged to grow mustaches. In 1944 they moved to Mission, KS where she graduated from Shawnee Mission High School in 1946. Soon after graduation, her family moved to Lawrence, KS where she met her future husband of 56 years, Edward (Tyker) Brass. She attended Kansas University (Rock Chalk!) where she majored in English and was a proud and active Jayhawk.

In 1950, she graduated college and married her “OAO” (One And Only), Tyker. She was an Air Force Bride for a number of years. Their son, Eric, was born in 1952 and they settled in Albuquerque, NM in 1957. Doris was active in Assistance League of Albuquerque, American Association of University Women, and Albuquerque Little Theatre. In 1968, Doris was quite surprised and excited to find herself pregnant at 40! Her daughter Anne remembers her as the “Room Mother” throughout her school days, always volunteering to help for every event, field trip and party.

Doris dedicated herself to creating a beautiful, welcoming home and a loving family. She loved to bowl, play and teach bridge, host parties, travel, and spend time with the many life-long friends she made along the way. She hoped to be remembered as someone who always tried to do the right thing.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Ferris (Doc) and Gladys Wolf; husband, Edward (Tyker) Brass; son, Eric Brass; and brother, Kendal Wolf. She is survived by her sister, Mary Anne McClure; daughter, Anne Silva and husband, Aaron; grandchildren, Alejandro and wife Brandy Silva, Aundrea Silva and fiancé, Arman Martinez; as well as beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.

Doris’s family would like to extend a special Thank You to the staff of Beehive Homes of Bosque Farms for the excellent care, friendship, love, and support they have given Doris and her family over the past two years. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Ronald McDonald House, a charity very dear to Doris.
