Desiderio "Desi" Fernando Gonzales (Uncle Fred) age 82, a computer engineer and a longtime resident of Albuquerque, NM passed away on Sunday May 1, 2022, at his residence in Rio Rancho, NM.
Uncle Fred is survived by his two sisters; Nester Castillo and Patricia Burlingame; and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel M. Gonzales and Matilda C. Gonzales ;and several siblings; Julian and Angelica Gonzales, Anna and John Linthicum, Toni and Eddie Montano, and Eddie and Betty Gonzales.
Uncle Fred was born Friday, April 5, 1940, in Logan, NM. He graduated from Valley High School in Albuquerque, NM in 1958 where he was an all-star wrestler. He served honorably in the US Navy during the Vietnam Era where he earned a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and a 2nd Good Conduct Medal. He had been a computer engineer at Controlled Data where he retired after 40 years of employment. He was a member of the Los Madrugadores Golf Club where he spent some of his leisure time. Golfing was by far his favorite pastime. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge where he spent the rest of his leisure time.
Uncle Fred was not the most open with his love and did not share his feelings often; however, his family did know he loved us and would always be there for us whenever we needed him. He was quiet and stern but also kind and loving. He will be remembered fondly by his loving family and friends.
Uncle Fred will be celebrated on Monday, May 16, at 10:30 a.m. at the Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum and Chapel at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd, NE . Interment will follow. We will gather to remember Uncle Fred after the celebration at the Moose Lodge.
