David Earl Simpson

January 11, 1960 — May 23, 2021

David Simpson, a loving husband, amazing father, adored Papa, and kind friend, passed away at the age of 61 after a courageous battle.

He is survived by his wife, Shelli, his high school sweetheart, and soul mate. They were married for more than 40 years and were by each other's side through all the struggles and joy life had to offer. Together they have two daughters, Shannon (Jared Scheffler) and Michelle and two granddaughters, Aria and Elise who adored him. He is also survived by his sister Danielle, his brother Dan, (Carla), sister-in-law Laura (Nakashima), numerous family members and many good friends.

David loved his family, classic Chevy cars, racing and "tinkering." In his younger years, he enjoyed loud motorcycles, fast cars and rebuilding classic Chevy muscle cars. He was a jack of all trades and a master of most everything mechanical. He could fix everything from leaky faucets to car engines and then would build costumes for his daughter's shows. David would offer help to everyone. He was a man with an endless to-do list, amazing energy, strong work ethic, and love and enthusiasm to improve the lives of his family and those around him.

He was the happiest when he was spending time with family and friends. David was always trying to create great memories. There were times that he traveled with 15 to 20 family members and friends. His impact on everything and everyone he touched can never be fully measured. But foremost, he was the bedrock of his family.

His career included being a machinist for General Electric, a building services director for the State of New Mexico and a manager for the University of New Mexico. His jobs did not define him. He was defined by his quick wit, patience, a kind smile, and his compassionate spirit. He had a heart of gold and was often reaching out to others to offer help and teach.

David was a patient teacher to his children, granddaughters and anyone who wanted to learn from his vast knowledge. Our family's aspiration now is to continue David's legacy to always look for the positive, share a smile and support others the way he supported his family and friends. He touched many lives and will be deeply missed.

Memorial contributions may be made in David's name to The American Cancer Society.

A gathering of family and friends to celebrate his life will be held at a later date.
