Daniel Gene Scott

April 1, 1950 — July 28, 2020

Daniel G. Scott, age 70, lived fully the three Phases of Faith in his life. Born in Tennessee and learning early the Phase One promises of God, he achieved graduation from UT Martin and the accomplishment of becoming a lab technician at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, working under Dr. Sterling Edwards and Dr. Otto Appenzellar. He then found his life’s calling as a CLU (Chartered Life Underwriter) working for Safeco Insurance, the Talbot Agency (where he served as Vice President), Hub International, Manuel Lujan Agency and Western Assurance.

He gave generously to this community. Some of his service:

· Shepherd, songleader and tireless encourager of his beloved Mountainside Church of Christ

· Concert emcee

· Member of the Boards of Directors of Lubbock Christian University, Camp Blue Haven, Albuquerque Christian Children’s Home, Albuquerque Christian School, and Acappella Ministries

· Member, Alexis de Tocqueville Society of United Way of Central New Mexico

· Past President, Albuquerque Breakfast Exchange Club

· Successful life and health insurance agent and trusted advisor

· Hospital chaplain

· Lay minister who performed many weddings and funerals

· Singing Santa Claus to the sick, in nursing homes and to underprivileged children

· Host to literally hundreds of people of all races, friends and strangers alike, who stayed a night, a week, or months in his home

· Home Bible study leader for decades

· Fundraiser of hundreds of thousands of dollars for local charities

He loved sports and especially the Denver Broncos. He himself was a pitcher on the state championship Penn. St. Church of Christ slow pitch church league softball team and was a ruthless table tennis competitor.

He adored his wife, his son Ryan and his wife Kimber, and his daughter Celeste and her husband Noel, and the precious grandchildren they gave him.

Dan had many Phase Two contradictions to his faith and to his health for nearly 55 years but he always prevailed. Then, on December 1, 2011, he fell ill with his second case of Guillain Barre Syndrome and was intubated for months. The following nearly 9 years were catastrophic years of loss of health, possessions, job, freedom, and dignity. But he always elevated the promises above the contradictions and never ever questioned God or His goodness. He was an example, like Job, of inexplicable and bitter trials that never made him bitter. And through the support of church, family, and friends, God always supplied for his needs and those of his loved ones.

Now Dan has achieved Phase Three in which God has resolved all the contradictions. He is rich beyond compare. He has perfect health. His joy is complete. And he has the intimate fellowship of the saints of all the ages and their focus and love, their Savior who died for them so that they might live eternally and joyfully.

He leaves behind, only temporarily, his wife of 46 years, Latayne; his son, Ryan and wife Kimber and their children Canaan and Judah; and his daughter, Celeste and husband Noel and their children Scottlyn, Even, and Nation. He is also survived by his brother, Halbert Scott and wife Susan; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other kin who loved him; and so, so many friends. We, his family, thank you for your love and support.

If you’d like to honor him, we would suggest contributions to the Albuquerque Christian Children’s Home, Faith Comes by Hearing, Trinity Southwest University, or Acappella Ministries.
