Cletus Bernard Baudendistel

June 18, 1930 — January 17, 2021

Golf Enthusiast, Patriot Missile System Manager

Cletus, known as Abe to his friends, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2021, at the age of 90. The cause of death was a heart attack that was brought on by a short illness. We are saddened by the sudden loss of our father; however, we are grateful that he was active, alert, and in good spirits to the end.

Although born and raised in Denver, Abe’s work took him, his wife Betty Kay, and their three children too many places in the USA, but he never lost his love for New Mexico and settled in Albuquerque after he retired.

As a young man, he answered the call-to-service during the Korean War by joining the Navy. Always the sensible type, he opted for the Navy. He figured he didn’t have the keen eyesight required by the Air Force. And not being a fan of camping, he couldn’t see himself spending 2 years in the Army or Marines, which he was sure would require a lot of time in a tent.

During his long career as an electronic engineer turned manager, Abe worked on jet propulsion projects with Lockheed before joining Raytheon to participate on the Patriot Missile System team as a project manager.

Abe was an avid golfer and a member of the Gaggle that met weekly for golf at The Paradise Hills Golf Course. Here’s a shout-out to all the Gaggle members for helping Abe keep track of his balls.

His last residence was at the Rio Grande In Rio Rancho, NM. He enjoyed the view of the Sandia Mountains, the warm hospitality of the staff, and friendly neighbors.

As Mass will be said in his honor, Sunday, January 31, 2021 at 12:30 p.m., at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Albuquerque, NM.
