Charlene Marie (Martinez) Winn

April 24, 1955 — November 26, 2019

Charlene “Bobo” (Martinez) Winn, age 64, a beloved mother, nana, sister, aunt, grand-aunt, cousin, and friend passed away peacefully at home in Albuquerque, NM on Tuesday, November 26, 2019.

Charlene was born April 24, 1955 in Raton, NM to Lewis and Eutimia Martinez. She was the 9th of 11 children.  She was blessed to have her older sister Earlene, help raise, love and support her throughout her life.

Charlene graduated from Raton High School in 1973. She married Bob Winn in 1976 and chose to love and raise his children, Holly and Rob as her own. She later gave birth to Matthew and Tim and enjoyed being a stay at home mom and wife. She was involved in various activities with her kids such as being a soccer mom, helping at the school, and had a way of being a mom to the neighborhood kids as well.  She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many different callings such as primary teacher, cub scout den mother, and Relief Society teacher. After her divorce she started working full time and worked as a cashier, receiving in the warehouse, and eventually took classes to become a payroll specialist and did that up until her health required her to retire. She loved music and loved to dance. She enjoyed sports including volleyball and softball and was also on a bowling league.  She was a great friend to many and especially enjoyed her weekly girls’ nights out with her best friend Rita Muniz and Rita’s sister Lucy.  She loved to travel and was able to take her dream trip to Ireland with Rita to celebrate their 50th birthdays together.

She enjoyed being THE Nana to her grandchildren and attending their sports games, concerts, plays, and other events.  She loved playing games with them and having them over for hot cocoa at holiday times. She was known for calling and singing Happy Birthday to her children and grandchildren on their birthdays. She loved her grand-dog Oscar, even though she claimed she wasn’t a dog person. She often said that he had come to rescue her because he kept her company and brought her happiness through difficult times.

Charlene was known for her fun and charismatic personality and loving nature. As Mama Penguin, she enjoyed collecting and receiving penguins and had a variety of penguin clothing, blankets, pillows, pins, and other items. She was very courageous as she faced her health challenges and always found a way to laugh and put a smile on her face despite how she was feeling. She was always concerned with those around her and wanted to make sure that they felt loved. She will be greatly missed by all.

Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, beloved son, Matthew, her granddaughter, Natalie, her sister Molly Ortiz, and her brothers Louis P. Martinez, and Gilbert Martinez.

She is survived by her loving children Holly Randall (Jeremy), Robert Winn (Patricia), and Tim Winn; her grandchildren Janelle, Seth, Joel, Shane, Trevor, and Cassidy Randall; Zibeon, Nekoda, Attilio, and Daisy Winn. Her siblings, Stella Sintas, Earlene LeDoux, Lillian Archuleta (Tony), Pauline Raught, Dickie Martinez (Bobbie), Marion Rodriguez, Archie Martinez (Deborah).  Also many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
