Obituary

 

William R. Garey (Bill), age 76, died peacefully on Monday, February 3, 2020 at the Veteran’s hospital in Albuquerque, NM surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on December 26, 1943 in Decatur, IL to Ruel and Violet Garey.  He retired from ABF trucking where he received the “3 million safe miles” driver award.  He was a proud veteran of the Vietnam Era war.  He was a lover of all things New Mexican, the outdoors, camping, fishing, traveling, and an avid motorcycle rider.  He also enjoyed farming into retirement, his dogs, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Bill was a proud founder of the New Mexico Chapter of Can-Am riders.  He was a kind person with a huge heart who loved his family and always tried to put them first.  He will be remembered for his smile, his eyes, his wisdom, and his contagious laugh.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, and younger brother, Keith.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Deb; his sister, Sheila; his son, Michael (Jennifer); his three grandchildren, Bryanna, Candace, and Aedan; and his two great-grandsons, Braydan and Carson.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2020, 1:30 p.m. at FRENCH-Westside. His ashes will be laid to rest on Friday, April 17, 2020, 2:15 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery.

The family of Bill wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for the excellent care and compassion he received while at the VA hospital by the doctors, nurses, and staff.
