Benjamin Peter Melloy

d. March 29, 2021

Ben unexpectedly passed away at the young age of 32 on March 29, 2021 surrounded by loved ones at the hospital during a vacation of a lifetime in San Diego, CA. He is survived by his devoted girlfriend, Jennifer Ubl; loving brothers Fernando Ortega of Phoenix, AZ and Thomas Melloy of Las Vegas, NV; uncles Bill (Dorothy) Melloy, Patrick Melloy, Peter (Linda) Campos; aunts Colleen Melloy, Victoria Campos and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends from all walks of life.  Ben was preceded in death by his father Tom C. Melloy, mother Beth Melloy, and sister Nirvana Romero-Faccio; grandparents Charles and Jean Melloy, Fernando and Louise Campos.

Ben was born into a well-known Albuquerque business family to Tom and Beth Melloy on June 15, 1988.  Ben being the baby of the family with an older sister, Nirvana and his two older brothers, Fernando and Thomas was prepared to challenge the world. At the young age of 19 years old, Ben had already certified to be an EMT.  He soon realized being so young with such high aspirations came with its obstacles and decided he needed additional skills.  He became a mechanic and service technician for The Mechanic Inc. where the owner treated him like his own son.

Ben being such a strong man always enjoyed living on the edge with a fast and furious lifestyle.  Loving time spent with his brother and best friend Tom, friends and taking on any bet or challenge, he lived every minute to the fullest.  Throughout his life Ben struggled with addiction but in return found an immense passion for climbing, camping and being outdoors.  This led him to later becoming a ski/snowboard technician/tuner and whitewater raft guide for Cottam’s Ski Shops & Rio Grande Rafting.

His time at Cottam’s allowed Ben to relish in spending time with friends, gaming, snowboarding, rafting and during that time he met the love of his life, Jen.  He thoroughly loved science, reading and having meaningful conversations about life.  After Ben and his family suffered many hardships, including the loss of his parents, Ben decided to “retire”.  Living out the rest of his young years spending time with his girlfriend, friends and family at his cabin in Jemez Springs, NM while moving back and forth to San Diego, CA.

He adored spending time with nieces and nephews and loving every second of being Uncle Ben.  As a big gun enthusiast, Ben loved taking friends and family out shooting.  He absolutely loved getting closer and spending as much time as he could with his brothers and cousin Matthew.  Ben and Jen spent many days relaxing while playing with their beloved 3 rambunctious dogs whether it was at the cabin or at the beach.

During Ben’s final days he was full of happiness; getting to smile and laugh while vacationing in his favorite place with his girlfriend and family.  He was getting to adventure and experience new and exciting things to which his body decided it had been challenged enough.  Ben joins his parents, who he so dearly missed, on a new journey where he will be deeply missed and loved by all that knew him.
