Benjamin Marlin Butler

October 28, 1943 — July 2, 2020

Benjamin Butler, age 76, beloved husband and father, was called to his eternal resting place on Thursday, July 2, 2020. He entered this world on October 28, 1943 in Pecos, TX, born to Marlin and Carrie Butler. He is survived by his wife, Lea Ann Butler; daughter, Ann-Marie McCollough and her husband, Steve; daughter, Jennifer Scrivner and her husband, Garth; daughter, Lisa Butler; and sister, Mary Butler.

Benjamin dearly loved his four grandchildren; Riley Monthule, Kate and Lola McCollough, and Addison Scrivner. He held great love and admiration for his nephews, Michael Armijo Butler, and Raul Torres. The accomplishments of his daughters, grandchildren, and nephews gave Benjamin tremendous joy throughout his life.

Benjamin earned his bachelor's degree in History from the University of New Mexico. He was a Veteran of the Air Force and served in the Vietnam War. Benjamin was a smokejumper in the Forest Service out of West Yellowstone, MT, both before and after the war. He worked for many years in property management and real estate in Albuquerque. Ben and his wife owned Bandana Realty in Red River, NM later in life.

Benjamin was a true outdoorsman including a love and appreciation for fishing and hunting that was introduced early in life by his father, Marlin, and beloved uncles. Benjamin passed this appreciation for nature to his children, nephews, and grandchildren. Benjamin was a patriot and cared deeply for the well-being of our country. He was a gifted guitar player throughout his life, teaching himself to play by ear. He found great peace and joy by playing his guitar.

At this time, the family would like to honor the life of their beloved husband and father by asking all of his loved ones and friends to seek nature the way that Benjamin would.
