Bartley Dow Montgomery, 86, of Edgewood, New Mexico crossed the finish line to claim his eternal reward on Saturday, September 12, 2020.

He was born June 16, 1934 to James and Lily May Montgomery in Roswell, New Mexico and was the oldest of five boys. After his parents divorced, Lily May married Luke Hill and he had a little sister, Bonnie Sue Whitehead. He served four years in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict working in the engine room on a destroyer. He married Sharon Jean Lloyd on June 18, 1961. Bart began his career as an apprentice electrician and transitioned to a journeyman electrician. After a long battle with the Lord, he was called to the Gospel ministry and served over 40 years pastoring churches across New Mexico, Oklahoma, Colorado, and Texas. He was an associate Director of Missions for Central Baptist Association in Albuquerque, NM and Director of Missions for Mountain Valley Baptist Association in Alamogordo, NM. He also served as a police chaplain for the Albuquerque Police Department and was instrumental in starting the chaplaincy program for the Alamogordo Police Department and Gerald Champion Regional Hospital. He served as a chaplain for the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief and was able to serve as a chaplain following the bombing of the Murray Federal Building in Oklahoma City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, Herschel, Quinton, Delmar and Travis.  He is survived by his wife, Sharon, of the home; daughter, Nancy (Scott) of Edgewood, NM; son, Bruce of Yukon, OK; grandchildren, Josh Faucett, Portales, NM, Kyleigh (Ryan) Payne of Moriarty, NM, Brandon (Katie) Montgomery of Yukon, OK, Roger Montgomery of Yukon, OK, Shelby (Doug) Mae-Phillips of Oklahoma City, OK, Nathan Moxley of Yukon, OK;  four great-grandchildren, Hailly Faucett, Estrella Payne, Emilio Payne and Elleigh Payne; one sister, Bonnie Sue (Boyd) Whitehead of Altus, OK; many nieces, nephews, cousins and Christian brothers and sisters scattered across the world.
