Alma Margaret Hall

May 4, 1932 — March 22, 2023

Alma Margaret Dismuke Hall (Peggie), 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, in Albuquerque, NM. Peggie was born in Magdalena, NM on May 4, 1932, to Dewey and Neita Dismuke. Peggie is survived by her children, Russell Hall (Rachel) of Albuquerque, NM, Margery Thompson (Wade) of Tonganoxie, KS, and Marion Salopek (David) of Las Cruces, NM. She is survived by six grandchildren, Kristina Hall, Holley Gibson (Derek), Allison Thompson, Sheila Petty (Tyler), David Salopek and Haylee Salopek. Peggie was thrilled to become a great-grandmother to Adeline Petty and Nora Gibson. She is also survived by her niece, Ruth Dismuke-Blakely; and nephews, Mark Dismuke, Stephen Dismuke, Mark Hall, and Matthew Hall.

Peggie was preceded in death in 2018 by Wendell Hall, her beloved husband of fifty-eight years; her brother, William Dismuke; nephew, Daniel Dismuke; and her parents.

Peggie graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1949, Ward Belmont in Nashville, TN in 1951, and University of New Mexico in 1953, where she was a proud member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She taught Physical Education at Jefferson Junior High and Sandia High School. Peggie returned to UNM and received a Master of Science degree in 1980 after which she taught Adapted Physical Education in APS/East Area until her retirement in 1992.

Peggie and Wendell wed in Albuquerque in 1959. They lived in several states throughout their marriage always with the intention of returning to Albuquerque. As they were raising their children in Miami, FL, Peggie was president of PTA, sang in the church choir, and helped organize and run the kids' swim meets where they introduced the ever-popular green chile cheeseburger special.

Upon their return to Albuquerque in 1976, Peggie continued supporting her kids' swimming, joined Albuquerque Woodworkers Association, NM Senior Olympics, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), and supported NM Special Olympics. Peggie made wooden pledge keys and helped maintain the KKG house at UNM. Peggie was a member of Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church at the time of her passing.

As a 2-time hole-in-one golfer, marathon runner, handyman, fisherman, seamstress, violinist, and badminton player, Mom was an incredibly witty, patient, positive, loving and supportive role model to us all. Mom was so proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and such a fun-loving Nana.

Peggie always had a story to tell about her childhood on the homestead in Magdalena and insisted on buying a horse for her first grandchild because "every little girl needs her own horse." She always looked at the bright side of things and had a song to sing and a pun or clever story to share. Peggie was a one-of-a-kind lady who will never be forgotten, she lives on in every person she touched in her long and beautiful life. We will forever miss Mom's bright eyes and sweet smile.

A Celebration of Peggie's life will be held at Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church on Friday, June 23, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers a contribution in Peggie's name can be made to Special Olympics New Mexico http://www.sonm.org
