Alfredo Martinez

August 20, 1965 — September 9, 2022

Alfredo Martinez, 57, beloved father, was called to his eternal resting place on September 9, 2022. He entered this world on August 20, 1965 in Santa Fe, NM, born to Charles and Rose Martinez. He is survived by his father, Charles Leo Martinez; mother, Rose Ellen Martinez; sister, Veronica Martinez; brother-in-law, Jerome Madrid; son, Marquez Martinez; daughter, Aleah Martinez; daughter, Kayla Martinez; son, Mekaio Martinez; daughter-in-law, Katarina Martinez; grandson, Mason Martinez; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunt, uncles, and friends. He will be reunited with his youngest daughter, Izabella Rose Martinez. Alfredo Martinez loved being a dad more than anything in the world and was also every excited about being able to be grandpa. He loved his entire family deeply and always enjoyed getting together with them for graduations, holidays, sporting events or any other instance that brought us all together.

Alfredo Martinez accomplished many things in his lifetime. As a graduate from West Las Vegas High School, he went on to earn a Bachelors in Science in Education from UNM, Masters of Arts from University of Northern Colorado and finally a Ph.D. in Physical Education, Sports and Exercise Science. Along with his degrees he also earned multiple teaching licenses for K-12th grades, Special Education and Administration. Alfredo also held multiple coaching certifications.

Sports played a huge part of Alfredo's life. Not only did he excel in sports such as football, basketball, track and field and tennis, but he was also an excellent and beloved coach and teacher within the sports community. Alfredo had the opportunity to coach football and track at multiple APS schools including Highland High School, West Mesa High School, La Cueva High School and Cibola High School. However, his favorite experience was being able to coach his kids' youth sports teams for also long as he could and rarely missed a practice or game. Ultimately, he was able to make a career out of his love for sports and worked as a professor at the University of New Mexico teaching multiple subjects in the Sports Administration Program. Alfredo never considered his jobs as work because he truly loved what he did.

Alfredo Martinez will always be thought of as an amazing dad, superb coach, passionate teacher, best of friend, and loving son, cousin, and nephew to many. He will be remembered through wonderful memories of shenanigans, adventures, and endless stories.
