Agnes (Chavez) Dotson

May 24, 1938 — April 10, 2021

Agnes Dotson, age 82, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, (Nana), great-grandmother, aunt, sister, friend, and mentor passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2021. She was preceded in death by her mother, Juanita Chavez; father, Fred Chavez; sister, Theresa Chavez; and her brothers, Mariano, Fred, Richard, Godfrey, and Conrad Chavez.
She is survived by her husband, Keith; brother, Frank; and sister, Josephine Chavez; her sons, Gregory and his wife, Mary Jane; Steven and his wife, Honey Bee; Matthew and his wife, Reina; grandchildren, Sarah Force, husband, Aaron, Rebekah Zender, husband, Christopher, Jordan Dotson, Anden Dotson, Eva Dotson, Terri deVries, husband, Tjeerd, Lauren Gilbert; great-grandchildren, Madisyn, Judah and Elizabeth Force, Zoila and Killian Zender, Timothy and Tristan deVries, and Ayla Hallock and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was not only a beautiful lady, but she was intelligent and industrious. She worked as a paralegal for the New Mexico Court of Appeals, U.S. Attorney's Office and finally the U.S. Veterans Administration in the span of her 40-year career.

She would say that the most important thing she did in her life was to accept Jesus Christ as her Savior at Temple Baptist Church, Santa Fe. Her heart's desire for those she cared about was that they come to know Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. Her pastor said that Agnes and Keith were a blessing to the ministry because of their dedication and service to the ministry and their deep love for their Savior. He also stated that he felt blessed to have served with them in the ministry.

If asked, Agnes would say her greatest achievements in life were the contributions she made to the spiritual lives of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the young people she mentored through her years as a Sunday school teacher and the many years she and her husband, Keith, mentored through their premarital classes. Their home was not just for their boys - it was open to other family members and friends of the boys from the time they were in Santa Fe and on through their Cedar Crest years. There was a great number of young people who referred to her as their "second mom" because of her great kindness and caring sprit. Her actions may have seemed insignificant to her but left a lasting impact on those she interacted with. She was a Proverbs 31 wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

Agnes never sought the limelight but was content to quietly minister in a sincere, loving, and subtle but profound way. The outpouring of those who were touched by her ministry has been made evident to the family through numerous emails, text messages, social media posts, and cards, and for this, we are eternally grateful.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 23, 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Chapel Rio Rancho, 138 Frontage Road NE, Rio Rancho, NM 87124, where she spent her most productive and meaningful years of ministry.
