William Douglas Kuhl

d. September 29, 2017

Bill Kuhl died on September 29, 2017 after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia.  He was born in Klamath Falls, OR on June 5, 1941 and spent most of his life in Northern California.  His parents were Frederick William Kuhl and Winnifred Roberta (Nelson) Kuhl.  His sister, Harriett Kuhl Moore, died earlier this year.  He attended elementary, junior high and high school in Eureka, CA.  Then he attended Humboldt State University in Arcata, CA where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts.  When he graduated he went to work as a technician at General Electric’s Vallecitos Plant near Livermore, CA.  Bill later worked at Aroject General and then in various technical positions with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.  He was with the Livermore Lab from 1969 to 1997 at which time he transferred to Los Alamos National Laboratory where he worked until retirement in 2005.  He loved his work and was proud of his contributions to nuclear research.

Bill loved to be outdoors and he loved doing things that required the use of his hands.  He hiked, hunted, camped and especially loved fly fishing on the Jemez. He made most of his own flies and he always caught fish on them.  He was a “fix it man” for his own household or anyone that called on him.  He could make anything work.  He always collected parts, so he would have them for fixing things.

Bill is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jean Morehouse Kuhl; his son, Douglas Alan Kuhl and wife, Ana Luz and their daughters, Rebekah Alicia and Rachel Jean; and his son, Nathan William Kuhl and wife, Dorothy Leal and their children, Holly Laureana, Antony Louis, and Mary Tella.  He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Ruth Morehouse Jones and her children, Jeffrey David Jones, Elizabeth Lynn Jensen and Timothy William Jones.  His sister’s children are Sarah Moore Reid and Elizabeth Moore Chiesa.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, November 4, 2017, 2:00 p.m., at St. Chad’s Episcopal Church, 7171 Tennyson St. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87122.  Donations may be made in Bill’s name to St. Chad’s Episcopal Church Memorial fund or a charity of your choice.
