William Drake

William "Bill" Drake, age 82, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2025 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He is survived by his son Todd Drake, daughter Dianna (David), grandsons Anthony, Andrew and Jacob Gonzales, niece Patty Archuleta (Charles), nephews Michael Hockenberry and John La Bar as well as other extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife Grace, daughter Debra, parents Mildred and Charles Drake, brother James Hockenberry and nephew Jim Hockenberry.

In the early 90s Bill and Grace moved to Jemez Springs, New Mexico, where they lived for almost 20 years, longer than any other residence over the course of their marriage. After retiring from Yellow Freight, Bill spent a lot of time fishing, working outdoors and enjoying the mountains from the large deck of their home. Since Jemez was a special place for him, a memorial will be held at the Jemez Valley Baptist Church (8294 Highway 4, Jemez Pueblo, NM) on Friday, July 18th at 10:00 am. In honor of Bill's colorful nature, guests are invited to wear tie-dyed clothing, Hawaiian prints or brightly colored Converse shoes - all a part of his wardrobe.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to the David Westphall Veterans Foundation at 34 Country Club Rd, Angel Fire, NM 87710. Bill served as a Marine in the Vietnam War and felt a connection to the memorial in Angel Fire. He visited several times, and had the privilege of meeting Dr. Westphall, whose son David was killed in action. For more information please visit http://vietnamveteransmemorial.org
