Listen to Obituary

William Bell Chambers, known to family and friends as Bill, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2025, following a long illness. Bill grew up in Los Alamos, New Mexico where he was active in the Boy Scouts, learned to ski at Pajarito Mountain Ski Area, and played guitar in a high school rock-and-roll band. Music was a lifelong passion-he continued to play and write songs throughout his life and took great joy in his four guitars, each of which he loved to play.

An avid outdoorsman, Bill enjoyed skiing, camping, backpacking, fishing and traveling with his family. He spent a 30-year career at Sandia National Laboratories where his work supported nuclear nonproliferation.

Above all, Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, warmth, and sense of fun as well as the deep love he shared with those around him.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Drs. William Hyland Chambers and Marjorie Bell Chambers. He is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart, Margaret, his son Clayton, his daughter Corie, three siblings, two grandchildren, three sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law and several nieces and nephews.

In remembrance, the family suggests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
