William (Bill) R. Barry passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2026. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Eva Barry; his brother, Theodore L. Barry III; his son William R. Barry II, his wife Cari, and their children; twins Gregory and Jacob, Eric, and twins Luke and Laurel; and his son Nathan R.T. Barry, his wife Mary and their children, twins Joshua and Michael, Ryan, and Peyton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore L. Barry Jr. his wife Mildred; his uncle, Ralph A. Smith; and his grandparents William and Lydia Smith.
Prior to his marriage to Eva, Bill proudly served in both the New Mexico Air National Guard and the United States Air Force, including deployment to Vietnam. He remained deeply proud of his military service throughout his life.
After returning to Albuquerque, Bill completed his studies at the University of New Mexico, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, and during this time he met and married Eva beginning a lifelong partnership. He later completed a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering.
Following graduation, Bill accepted a position in Los Angeles, California with Hughes Aircraft, where he worked as an engineer. After the birth of their first son, the family returned to Albuquerque. He continued his career as an engineer with the United States Air Force at Kirland Air Force Base.
Bill was a devoted husband and father who took great pride in working with his hands and fixing things. He enjoyed teaching his sons practical skills, from repairing cars to renovating homes and troubleshooting mechanical problems. He volunteered as a Scout Leader and made lasting contributions to his community. In his personal life, Bill had a passion for firearms and was an active member of the NRA, often spending time at the shooting range. He also loved to travel and made it a priority to plan annual family vacations, ensuring time together away from daily responsibilities.
Bill enjoyed watching movies, riding motorcycles, reading, fishing, and volunteering at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. He will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his service to his country, and his generous spirit.
A Celebration of Life is planned for 1:00 pm June 13, 2026 at Covenant United Methodist Church, 8510 Wyoming Blvd NE.
