Willa Harris Martin was born in Belton, Texas. Willa grew up in Austin, Texas. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her book clubs and friends. Enjoyment of art, particularly southwestern and native artists surrounded her life.
Willa attended American University in Mexico City. Her love of the Spanish language led to Willa becoming fluent. Willa's Spanish skills were so strong that later in life she worked as a Spanish speaking support rep with the Social Security admin.
After a move to Arizona in the 1960's she met her husband
Donald Martin. As a home builder Mr Martin became active with NAHB (National Association of Home Builders) Mr. Martin rose to become an officer of the National organization. He was elected President of NAHB in 1998. Together Don and Willa owned their own home building businesses in Colorado and New Mexico.
Willa is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Robin and Erik, her granddaughter Audrey and partner Yuanfu, her grandson Alexander and wife Janell, and her great granddaughter and great-grandson all living in the Kansas City area. It was a great pleasure for Willa and Don, who was born in Kansas, to have his son-in-law move to Kansas and to have his grandson and granddaughter both attend college in Kansas.
Interment will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Santa Fe, New Mexico.
