Warner Jay Shectman "Bud"

February 23, 1932 — April 24, 2025

Bud - as he liked to be known - served his country honorably in the United States Navy from March 1952 until March 1960. He served the second battleship of Yorktown during the Korean War, and the Cold War. After his military service, Bud went to California where he wanted to pursue a career in music at the Westlake College of Music.

Originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Bud and his family eventually made his home in Albuquerque.

Music was Bud's life and passion. As a professional musician, he performed all over the world especially in Asia, including: Japan and China. He also enjoyed entertaining the troops in Guam. Bud played piano, bass guitar, harmonica, and upright bass. During the 1980's, he performed mostly at The Hilton: The Ranchers Club, here in Albuquerque - where he met his wife, Toni. Bud also did sessions work over the years and he was also a singer. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching Fox News and being with his family as much as he could. He LOVED his ice cream, coffee, licorice, and chocolate chip cookies.

Bud leaves behind his wife of 34 years, Mary "Toni" Shectman; Bud's daughter, Lisa Shectman; two grandchildren, Vaughn and Jocelyn; stepchildren, Paul, Megan, Heather, and Teddy; and a niece and two nephews. He also leaves behind the musicians that admired him.

The staff of the Community Living Center Hospice thank the Shectman family for allowing us to care for Bud in his last months of life. We will remember him for his good nature - "Hey babe" - his love of coffee and sweets, and his sweet smile.

For all those who served this country honorably, we now welcome you home.

The Shectman family wishes to thank all the staff at the VA Hospice in Albuquerque, for their exceptional care, especially Dr. Marty. The family also thanks FRENCH Funerals, for their professional and compassionate care, especially Benni, during this difficult time.
