Walter Watkins, 64, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away on May 4, 2025. A devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and loyal friend, Walter will be remembered most for his selflessness and quiet generosity. He was the kind of man who always put others first--whether lending a helping hand to a neighbor, offering a listening ear to a friend, or spending long hours working in his garage to fix what others couldn't.
Born with a deep curiosity and a love for hands-on work, Walter graduated from trade school as a diesel mechanic and went on to dedicate his career to public service as a wastewater mechanic. He took great pride in the work he did for his loved ones and found fulfillment in problem-solving, craftsmanship, and teamwork.
When he wasn't finishing others' to-do lists, Walter had many passions, including cooking, gardening, and immersing himself in the worlds of science fiction. He found joy in simple pleasures, like growing vegetables in his backyard or sharing a home-cooked meal with his loved ones.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Christina; his sons, Nicholas and Scott; his daughter-in-law, Ellen; his grandsons, Wyatt and Levi; and his five siblings, Gary, Victoria, Roger, Michael, and Kimberly. He will be missed deeply by all who knew him. His legacy of kindness, hard work, and humor lives on in all who knew him.
A wake of remembrance will be held on May 12th at his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where friends and family are invited to gather, share stories, and celebrate a life well-lived.
Those we love remain with us for love itself lives on, and cherished memories never fade because a loved one's gone. Those we love can never be more than a thought apart, for as long as there is memory, they'll live on in our heart.
The best things in life are the people we love, the places we've been, and the memories we've made along the way.
