W. Randolph Schlegel

November 5, 1965 — August 14, 2023

W. Randolph Schlegel died at his home in Malibu on Sunday, August 13th. He is survived by his sons William, Gunnar, and Cruz, his mother Jessie Lucero, brother Troy, and sister Alexandria Strong. Randy was born and raised in Albuquerque. He attended Eldorado High School and later went on to study business at the University of New Mexico where he received his BBA and later his MBA. At 25 he became a licensed CPA and worked in New York, San Francisco, and Denver, before returning to Albuquerque to join Mega Corp in 1995, the company his father, Bill, had co-founded in 1976. Randy acquired the company and became its CEO in 2006. The company grew significantly during his ownership and established itself as an international business. In 1993 he married his former wife Kelly Schlegel and they had three children, William, Gunnar and Cruz. Randy was an accomplished skier and cyclist. In 2010 He rode coast to coast; from Los Angeles, California to Savannah, Georgia. He spent his last years in Malibu enjoying the beach, riding his bike, and getting into all sorts of exploits.

He will always be remembered for his bold magnetic personality, unique sense of humor, and brazen confidence. There is wisdom that is passed down from fathers to sons through generations. His father always said to him, ‘Do whatever you’re big enough to do’, and he told his children the same. Though he is no longer with us, and no longer able to offer guidance, we will have those words. Seven words that will hold profound meaning for the rest of our lives. In the years to come, without a father to call on, we know what he would tell us. And in that there is some comfort.

Friends and Family are welcome to attend the funeral at 10am on Thursday, August 24th at St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church. 11509 Indian School Rd. NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico. Reception to follow at the Albuquerque Country Club.

Flowers can be sent to French Funeral’s and Cremations at 10500 Lomas Boulevard NE, 87112.
