Virginia M. McCallister (nee Gaugler) - On January 14, 2017, her beautiful smile became perfect joy as her long struggle with dementia and other health issues ended. Virginia was 87 years old.
A resident of Albuquerque, NM since 1945, Virginia's late husband Harvey and their sons, Gene, Roy & Daryl filled her life with laughter, music, horseplay and mud. Virginia always said she had four boys; three of whom she managed to raise to be decent gentlemen, but "that Harvey was still a work in progress". Virginia's happiness and family increased with the addition of "daughters of her heart" - Carol & Janet, grandsons - Andrew, Matthew, Dustin and Tommy, granddaughter-in-law Karen and great-grandson Josiah.
While Virginia's occupation was Office Manager & Bookkeeper of McCallister's Piano Service, her passions were caring for her family, entertaining friends, making fine desserts, teaching Sunday school and sharing her faith & love of the Lord. Her church family at Fellowship Christian Reformed Church in Albuquerque was very dear to her.
The people who helped care for Virginia in her final years were also dear to her and to her family. Her family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of New Mexico who kept Virginia comfortable in her final days. A special thank you to Dr. Francesco Standoli for his comforting voice of reason and the care he gave Virginia for seven years. And thank you will never be enough for the entire staff of Brookdale Valencia - the care, love and support they gave not only to Virginia, but to our entire family, will always be treasured.
In keeping with Virginia's love of the Lord and family, a memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Fellowship Christian Reformed Church, 4800 Indian School Rd, NE. Albuquerque, NM with light refreshments to follow. Private interment at Santa Fe National Cemetery will be held earlier in the week with Andrew McCallister, Matthew McCallister, Dustin Reed and Tommy McCallister serving as Honorary Pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, Virginia requested that donation be made to East Central Ministries, 123 Vermont St. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108 or the charity of your choice.
