Virginia Fitzgerald Fitzgerald passed away Friday, June 12, 2026. Virginia was born and raised in Hartford Connecticut. After getting married, she moved to Portland, Ct., and raised her 5 children. She later moved to New Mexico in 2002.
Virginia was proud of her Irish, Catholic heritage. She was an active member of St. Mary's in Portland, and St. Bernadette's in Albuquerque. She was actively involved in all her children's activities while growing up. Virginia was a founding member, and past president of the Portland High School Sideliners booster club. She was also a creative, and talented needle worker. In her retirement years, she made blankets knitted hats, and made rosary beads for her church to disperse to those in need. Virginia had a great love for Christmas, and spent weeks decorating her home, starting before Thanksgiving. She was also a die-hard UConn basketball fan.
Virginia is survived by her 5 children; Laurie Trasp (Robert), Michael Jim (Debbie), Dan and Tom (Lisa), as well as numerous grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Ed Fitzpatrick, Loretta Fitzpatrick, and Marilyn Curry.
Virginia was a caring, but no nonsense Mom, something you grow to appreciate as you get older. She also had a great sense of humor. We are grateful for the loving home she and our dad provided to us in our childhood. Rest in peace, Mom, we love you.
A private service will be held at a later date at the Shrine of St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Albuquerque.
