Viola Ekdahl

Viola Ekdahl, vivacious, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away November 30, 2023. Viola is survived by her husband, William (Bill) Ekdahl; brother, Orie Montoya (Nellie); Viola’s children, Lisa Gatan (Clarence), Donald McNichol, and her eldest daughter; daughter-in-law, Natalie McNichol; stepchildren, Michael Ekdahl (Monique), Stephanie Ekdahl and Laurie Allendar; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her son, David McNichol; daughter-in-law, Cindy McNichol; her parents, Jose and Octaviana Montoya; brothers, Alfredo, Alfonso, and Gene; and her sister, Genevieve.

Viola grew up in Belen. She enjoyed hosting family gatherings, cooking, baking, and was an avid recipe hound. She retired from a happy career at Kirtland Air Force Base. Viola bowled, jogged, volunteered for Civitan, and loved to travel near and far with Bill and friends.

Viola lived her life with generosity and integrity. She will be dearly missed.

Services will be held Saturday, December 9th at 1:30pm at New Covenant Church 7201 Paseo del Norte NE Albuquerque, NM 87113.

Interment at Santa Fe National Cemetery will take place at a later date.
