Valentin Garcia reported to his pre-induction physical examination on March 5, 1946 - hence, began his long journey to serve his country in the Armed Forces of the United States. He enlisted in the Army/Air Force and loyally served for the next 23 years of his life. He served in the Korean War, was stationed in the Philippines with his brother, fellow Airmen/Paratrooper Estevan Garcia. Val also served in Japan for 8 years. There were five Garcia brothers who all served in the Armed Forces: Carlos Garcia - Army, Estevan Garcia -Air Force, Leonardo A. Garcia - Army, Eloy Garcia - Army.

Val was an airplane jet engine mechanic. During his life long career in the service, he received many accolades: the Korean Service medal, two Bronze Service Stars, Good Conduct medal, United States Service medal, National Defense Service medal, Victory medal Occupation (Japan).

He played in a country western band overseas with fellow airmen and said he enjoyed playing for his fellow soldiers.

Valentin retired with rank of TSGT on January 31, 1969. Dad joined Lee Galles Chevrolet dealership soon after and worked as an auto mechanic for over 30 years. He then worked for Garcia Subaru until 2020. He loved working with the public and talking to all of the customers.

Dad was very charismatic and always had a smile to greet you. He would help anyone in need or give a helping hand, whether it be maintenance on your car or handy work around the house or yard. He loved his coffee and you rarely saw him without it. He loved reading the newspaper daily and would circle articles for himself to look up and learn more about the topic.

He was a huge Lobo women’s basketball fan and would attend all of their games. He loved to play to guitar and the violin and sang with the choir at San José Church with his wife Mary. Dad will be remembered for his strong work ethic, but more than anything he will be in our hearts as being the best dad and grandpa.

He will be immensely missed, but knowing that his loved ones are waiting for him, makes it a bit easier.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Inez, his parents Juan and Julia Garcia, his brothers: Estevan, Carlos, Ralph and Eloy, and his loving sister Nora Sierra.

He is survived by his daughters Linda Lee and Dolores, his grandchildren Christopher, Derrick, Victoria, Hilario, Ismael and his great-grandchildren. As well as his brother Leonardo A. Garcia.

Thank you to Dr. Garcia (retired) VA hospital and his nurse Tina for making all his appointments enjoyable.

A funeral service will be announced shortly.
